On-boarding & New Hire Quality Assessments

Your ability to retain new employees is tied directly to the success of the on-boarding process. Employees that enter an organization, and do not have a positive experience over the first year of employment, are more likely to leave the organization. A strong on-boarding process leads to a more engaged workforce.

How our On-boarding Assessment works:

  1. Each organization will identify the 3 to 5 key stages within their organization's on-boarding process.
  2. A number of questions are created that focus on the key aspects of each stage of the on-boarding process.
  3. The customized surveys that are created are sent to new hires as they reach each stage of the on-boarding process.
  4. The information gathered:
  • Allows each organization to monitor/track the progress of each new hire over the first 12 months of employment
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the on-boarding process
  • Identifies issues that need corrective action
  • Serves as a measure of New Hire Productivity and Quality
  • See Measuring New Hire Quality

Possible Stages:

  • Stage 1: after week 1:
    • Recruiting and Interviewing process
    • Enrollment Process: paperwork for payroll and benefits
    • First impression orientation - tour, meet boss, team members,
    • Preparation for work - work area, phone, computer, email readiness
  • Stage 2: between weeks 1 month
    • Relationship with Manager
    • Goal setting and expectations
    • Work group orientation
    • Organizational practices and processes
  • Stage 3: after 3 months
    • Training
    • Fitting in with fellow employees and manager
    • Making the right decision
    • Is the job what you expected
  • Stage 4: after 6 months

    • Receiving feedback
    • Being coached
  • Stage 5: after 12 months

    • Reward and Recognition

Conclusion:
Collecting information from new hires throughout the first 12 months of employment demonstrates your organization's commitment to each new hire. When on-boarding steps are skipped or not completed, new hires often feel abandoned and unable succeed in their new role. This often leads to a questioning of their decision to join your organization. Having a strong on-boarding process will increase retention, new hire productivity, and shorten the time needed to engage a new hire. Attracting talent is too important, and costly, to ignore the impact of a well designed and executed on-boarding process.

New Hire Quality Measure:

Many organizations struggle with "how to" ensure recruiting processes deliver the highest quality candidates possible, and identifying development needs of new hires, to ensure a success on-boarding.

How our New Hire Quality Assessment works:
On-boarding assessments can also include additional steps to Measure New Hire Quality. Two additional surveys can be created and sent to each new hire's manager at stages 3 and 4 of the on-boarding assessment.

  1. A number of questions are created that tie back to the company's performance review for each stage. This allows the new hire quality assessment to tie back to your current performance review process.
  2. The customized surveys that are created are sent to each new hires manager as they reach stage #3 and stage #4.
  3. The information gathered will:
  4. Allow each organization to track the progress of each new hire over the first 12 months of employment
  5. Measure new hire productivity
  6. Measure new hire quality
  7. Track each recruiters quality of hire
